Baked Kale Chips

Items Needed For Recipe:

  • 1-Bushel of Kale
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt
  • Gloves
  • Lg. Baking Pan/ Sheet Tray

Step 1: Preheat Oven 350 Degrees

Step 2: Wash a fresh bushel of Kale. Dry the washed Kale in a salad spinner. If you do not have a salad spinner, lay each Kale leaf on a flat surface with paper towels until it is dry. **It is important to make sure the entire Kale is dry or it will cook unevenly in the oven causing undercooked or burnt kale**

Step 3: Cut the stems off dry Kale. Discard.

Step 4: Cut the Kale leaves into small pieces which resemble the size of a regular potato chip.

Step 5: Place the cut Kale in a medium bowl. Drizzle (DO NOT POUR) olive oil over the cut Kale. Too much olive oil can cause the Kale chips to be too oily.

Step 6: With a pair of gloves, rub the olive oil onto each Kale leaf evenly. Add salt for taste.

Step 7: Take a the non-greased baking pan or sheet tray (whichever you prefer) and place each Kale leaf evenly on the pan or tray. Make sure the Kale leaves are spaced evenly and are not touching or overcrowded on the pan or tray.

Step 8: Place pan in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Rotate the Kale every 5 minutes to cook evenly.

Step 9: Kale is done, when they are dry like a potato chip. Don’t worry about the color. Some of the chips may be darker green. That is normal.

Enjoy your tasty treat or addition to your family meal. Kale chips can be served plain or with a dip. For more recipes, visit See what others are saying about their Kale Chip experience!

Kale Chips: A Tasty Healthy Alternative Snack

For many people when the urge to snack hits, the first thing they reach for is a fatty, salty snack such as a packet of potato crisps. A habit of snacking on such food is very unhealthy and seeking a tasty alternative can be difficult.
An unlikely contender for a healthy and delicious alternative snack is roasted kale chips. These thin and crispy snacks are highly addictive and can go from garden to snacking in just fifteen minutes. They are simple to prepare, here is how to make roasted kale chips in ten simple steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 320 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Grab a bunch of kale and remove the stems
  3. Wash the leaves thoroughly in water and ensure you dry them well
  4. Once dried, cut the leaves into bite-sized pieces
  5. Toss the leaves in a bowl with a tablespoon of oil ensuring all the kale is coated with the oil
  6. Place the leaves on parchment paper on a baking tray, ensuring they are spread out properly
  7. Bake for 8-12 minutes, ensuring they are nice and crispy
  8. Remove the tray and season with salt

Let them stand for a couple of minutes to cool down

The kale chips provide great versatility for seasoning and you can easily create a mix of herbs and spices to coat the kale chips prior to going into the oven to create lots of different flavours. If you store the kale chips in an air tight container they will remain tasty and crispy to bring anywhere as a light snack.
